Family Activities a Great Feature of a Vacation in Maine

Maine is called “Vacationland” for many good reasons. Not only does the coast of Maine have some of the most beautiful beaches but it also is host to gorgeous rocky stretches that overlook the majestic Atlantic Ocean. Not far from the ocean views are the peaks that provide skiing in the winter and fantastic hiking in the summer for visitors on a Maine vacation. Weaving their way through the mountains on their way to the sea are spectacular rivers that provide the perfect playground for kayakers and whitewater rafters throughout the summer. Lakes dot the state, from tiny ones to large ones like Moosehead Lake, all sizes providing visitors with endless amounts of fun.

With such a varied landscape and so many wonderful features to offer, it is no wonder that many families choose to spend a vacation in Maine each year. There is still an unspoiled quality about the state, in spite of the many fine lodgings with amenities that can be easily found throughout. If one wishes to find a rather remote spot to enjoy time on a lake, Maine provides the perfect offerings. On the other hand, if recreation near a city with access to beach and mountains is more the desire, lodgings in and around Portland are easy to come by and offer tremendous versatility for vacationers.

Children love variety and Maine has much to offer. A stay in Maine’s Midcoast region features gorgeous ocean views and access to the rocky coastline as well as groomed beaches. Just a short drive away is access to the Kennebec River, the lower part of which is kid-friendly on both kayak and white water raft trips. Mountains provide the most active children with wonderful trails to hike and even waterfalls to frolic in when hot and in need of rest. No matter the energy level of your children, a Maine vacation family resort is just right to satisfy both their interests and yours as well.
